Why It Matters

Shopify keeps your store online. It does not keep your data recoverable.

Shopify’s own guidance is to use a backup app. When data goes wrong, the previous state exists only if something captured it first.

An app rewrote your catalog

Bulk editors, feed syncers and pricing apps all have write access. One bad run can flatten descriptions, prices or SEO fields across thousands of products.

Someone deleted the wrong thing

A collection, a page, a theme section, a metaobject definition. Shopify’s admin has no undo, and staff permissions rarely stop it in time.

A theme update broke the storefront

Custom sections and settings do not survive every update. Without a copy of the previous theme and its assets, rebuilding is the only option.

You need the store somewhere else

A staging copy, a new region, a client handover. Rebuilding a catalog by hand costs days you do not have.

Features

Four things, done properly

Backup, restore, migrate and export — the complete lifecycle of your store’s data, in one app.

Automated backup

Kepvia takes a full capture of your store, then keeps it current with incremental runs and live webhook updates as products change. You never start a backup by hand unless you want to.

  • Full and incremental captures
  • Live change tracking via webhooks
  • Versioned history you can browse

Precise restore

Restore an entire store, a single product, or everything as it stood at a chosen moment. Every restore is logged, and a bulk restore can be undone from the activity feed.

  • Full, selective and point-in-time restore
  • Side-by-side backup vs. live comparison
  • Undo a restore from activity logs

Store migration

Clone a backup into a second store — a staging copy, a new region, or a client handover. Connect the destination with an Admin API token and Kepvia writes the records across.

  • Clone to staging or a new store
  • Selective sync of chosen resources
  • Connection tested before anything is written

Export & import

Your backups belong to you. Download them as archives, schedule weekly or monthly exports to Google Drive, and import an archive back into any store you own.

  • On-demand and scheduled exports
  • Google Drive delivery
  • Import an archive into another store

How it works

From install to recovery, end to end

Five steps that describe the whole app. There is nothing hidden behind them.

  1. 01

    Install and connect

Add Kepvia from the Shopify App Store. It authenticates through Shopify OAuth — no passwords, no manual API keys. Your first full backup starts on its own.

  2. 02

    Choose what to protect

Pick the resources that matter to your store and how often they should be captured. Kepvia keeps them current from there, watching for changes as they happen.

  3. 03

    Browse your history

Every capture is a version. Open any item to see exactly what it looked like at that point, compared against the copy that is live in your store right now.

  4. 04

    Restore or migrate

Roll a single product back, restore the whole store to a moment before things broke, or clone the entire backup into a second store.

  5. 05

Keep a copy of your own

Export archives on demand, or schedule them weekly and monthly to Google Drive so a copy lives somewhere Kepvia does not control.

  6. That is the whole flow.

No setup calls, no configuration files, no scripts to run.

Migration

Copy a whole store into another store

A backup that can only go back where it came from is half a tool. Kepvia clones your captured store into any Shopify store you control — a staging environment, a new market, or a client’s account.

  • Full store clone
  • Selective resource sync
  • Safe connection test first
  • Runs in the background at any size
  1. 1

    Connect the destination

Paste an Admin API token for the store you are copying into. Kepvia tests the connection before it writes anything.

  2. 2

    Choose a backup version

Pick which capture to clone — the latest, or any earlier point in your history.

  3. 3

    Clone or sync selectively

Copy the whole store, or sync only the resources you name. It runs on a worker, so size is not a problem.

  4. 4

    Watch it finish

Progress is tracked live and recorded in the activity log, with the destination IDs mapped back to the source.

FAQ

Questions merchants ask first

What store owners want to know before trusting an app with their data.

Shopify keeps the platform running, but it does not keep a restorable copy of your data for you. Shopify’s own documentation recommends using a backup app. If an app overwrites your product descriptions, a bulk edit goes wrong, or a theme change breaks your storefront, the previous state is gone unless something captured it.

Products and variants, smart and custom collections, pages, blogs and articles, navigation menus, themes and theme assets, files and videos, metaobjects and metafield definitions, store policies, shipping zones, plus orders, customers and customer segments on paid plans.

A single item restores in seconds. A full-store restore runs as a background job so it is never cut short by a browser timeout — you watch its progress in the app and get told when it finishes.

Yes. Every bulk restore is recorded in the activity log with an undo action, so a restore that turned out to be the wrong choice can be reversed.

Yes. Connect the destination store with an Admin API token, and Kepvia clones a backup version into it. The connection is tested before anything is written. You can also sync only selected resources rather than the whole store.

Backups are stored encrypted on Kepvia’s infrastructure. You can download any backup as an archive at any time, and Pro plans can schedule weekly or monthly exports straight to your own Google Drive.

Uninstalling stops new captures. Your existing backups are retained for the duration of your plan’s history window so a reinstall can still recover them, and are then removed. Export an archive before you uninstall if you want to keep a copy indefinitely.

No. Kepvia reads through Shopify’s Admin API and runs every capture on background workers. Nothing is injected into your storefront, so there is no effect on page speed or Core Web Vitals.
